MySocial247: MySocial 24x7 - Companion for FriendFeed

  • Paul · 1 year ago
    I like this - a lot.

A few suggestions (other commenters: feel free to vote on these):

    • The top 1/4 of the add-on is all "other stuff" and not the content you really want to see - any way to minimize this stuff if we want to?
    • Default start-up should be 'Friends', not 'Everyone' not a big deal if it saves what you chose, but this resets every-time you close it & re-open it.
    • I think we are all now used to seeing the first 2 & last 3 comments and expanding the middle ones if we want (not always cutting off the last bunch)
    • The icon, name, and activity could all fit on one line, letting you read the content easier
    • Pagerization: it's somewhat annoying having to click through next pages (especially when only 15 entries are shown per page) - you could auto-load the next set when you have reached the end of scrolling or put a higher per-page limit.
    • Highlight comments from friends: FF web has this and I find it useful to highlight comments I should read in a long list
    • Open links in new tabs
  • michaeltwofish · 1 year ago
Sandosh, great work! And I second all of Paul's suggestions, though if middle click opened links in new tabs, I would want left click to open in the current window.
  • sandosh · 1 year ago
Yes, the mouse actions (click, ctrl/option + click) have default actions similar to the firefox web pages
  • michaeltwofish · 1 year ago
But I want middle click to work as I have it set up, which is to open the link in another tab. Currently it does nothing.
  • Phil Glockner · 1 year ago
Very cool sidebar app! Much better than anything else out there so far that is external to friendfeed.com. I agree with pretty much everything Paul says here, but still, excellent work!
  • Toby · 1 year ago
I agree with you, however, everyone has different preferences. I think it needs to add an option menu to allow everyone to make preference changes.
  • sandosh · 1 year ago
Thanks for your suggestions! I will work on them.
  • Google Tutor · 1 year ago
    nice work Sandosh!
  • Woland783 · 1 year ago
this app is simply great! i love it!!!

    some suggestions:
    1) ADD SEARCH!!!!
    2) images on flickr, smugmug and so on should be clickable
    3) a page shared on ff with more than one image attached previews only the last image using the on mouse over method
    4) add the ability to post something on twitter

    in response to Paul:
    - i like that everyone is the default view
    - "The icon, name, and activity could all fit on one line, letting you read the content easier". I thing that NOW its easier to read because of a wider blue line that separates the posts
    I agree with the rest!

thank you again for this! :)

[sorry for my poor english! :D ]
  • woland783 · 1 year ago
also: please add "liked" and "commented" page!
  • dd · 1 year ago
sorely needs feature for tracking room topics and adding comments. and i found a bug that is when subscribe to two or more blog, then although i choose just one particular blog icon, but mysocial show all blog contents at once which i don't expect.
  • nuin · 1 year ago
    Hi
You may have forgotten from the development that your application is adding a "Your menuitem" item on Firefox's right click menu. If you click this, it shows a message box with "Hello world" on it. I uninstalled MySocial just to check and the item disappeared.

    great app - great job!
also how are you using google app engine?
  • sandosh · 1 year ago
This site runs on a custom CMS built on Google AppEngine

Sandosh, great little app! You're going far man =)

  • Stefanos Karagos · 1 year ago
    Nice work!
Better integration with Twitter API could make this addon, a killer app.
  • G · 1 year ago
Does this work on Apple? I tried installing it, but my apple won't recognize it...am I doing something wrong? Thanks.
  • michaeltwofish · 1 year ago
It's working fine for me on a Mac. Silly question, but are you using Firefox? What happens when you click on the download link above?
  • vauxhall · 1 year ago
wow! amazing! I don't need twhirl anymore!
  • Justin Fleming · 1 year ago
It still shows all @replies even when Twitter account is set to only show @replies from people you are following.
  • joshjenkins · 1 year ago
    Reminds me of Posty. (http://spreadingfunkyness.com/posty/)

    Very neat.
  • Joffrey · 1 year ago
    Perfect app, a must-have! :)
  • THE1000LINKS · 1 year ago
Well done, I think it's quite useful.
  • Toby · 1 year ago
it is a great app. It is very useful, though I wish it has direct comment posting for friendfeed and direct twitter posting. i hope you will consider those features in the future.... it would be awesome!
  • Paul · 1 year ago
It has direct comment posting for friendfeed (with options to @reply twitter on those)...just click the comment icon and you'll see a textbox. Same for "likes".
  • Steve · 1 year ago
Doesn't want to install. I'm using Firefox Portable 2.0.0.14
  • jimdorey · 1 year ago
Wow. Great job sandosh. I want the ability to update Twitter without having to reply to someone though. For a first iteration it looks DAMN good.
  • jeffisageek · 1 year ago
checking the plugin out. I think it has some potential. will have to see after a few days what my thoughts are.
  • neofreko · 1 year ago
very neat, big thumb up for this nifty sidebar. you guys/gals rocks!
  • Neil · 1 year ago
This is an excellent extension; just what I was hoping someone would write!

It has almost all of the functionality from the FriendFeed website except one feature: search.
  • Woland783 · 1 year ago
search is the greatest feature of ff... sad it isn't here!
  • Voyagerfan5761 · 1 year ago
Looks interesting. I don't use sidebar apps myself, as my laptop's screen is too small to make them useful; but judging from the other comments here and what I can tell from the screenshot, you've got a pretty good app started! I just hope you act on feedback, as Paul was kind enough to provide above (as an example).

Amazing extension. Now using FriendFeed makes even more sense than before:)
  • sindhu · 1 year ago
is this a new kind of service?
  • sarahintampa · 1 year ago
Is it supposed to auto-refresh? Because mine doesn't. Would love if that was configurable, too.
  • Phil Glockner · 1 year ago
It doesn't auto-refresh for me either.
  • sandosh · 1 year ago
It doesn't in this version. It will be avialable in the next version very soon.
  • kelce · 1 year ago
thank you for this awesome app. but i've a login problem. i wrote my nickname and remotekey then press 'login' then appears "authentication required" window. i wrote my user and pass and click 'ok' but then it appears again again and again. am i stupid or what? i'll be appreciate if anyone can help. thank you
  • neofreko · 1 year ago
I can confirm this. "Remember me" checkbox is not checkable :(. And no credential info was recorded :(
  • Edo · 1 year ago
I have the same problem :-(
  • Todd · 1 year ago
this seems to be a bit of a ripoff of Flock browser. How is it different?
  • Martin Jamieson · 1 year ago
Am I the only one who has some major bugs if I open more than one firefox window?

In the second window I get a blank mysocial 24x7 sidebar panel, all my firefox menu bookmarks disapear and it resets my home page.

Apart from that it's cool, but I usually have 2-3 firefox windows open (all with multiple tabs obviously) it would be nice to at least disable it in the other windows.
  • sandosh · 1 year ago
What is your setup? Browser version/OS ?
  • Martin Jamieson · 1 year ago
    Firefox 3b5
  • Martin Jamieson · 1 year ago
    Forgot to mention OS, Vista.

An imporovement I'd like to see - ability to expand/collapse each item. If there are a lot of comments etc. for one item, it can take up the majority of the window, wny not give us the ability to collapse items to one line so more can fit on the screen?
  • FM · 1 year ago
I absolutely love, love, LOVE this app. One thing that would make it that much better for me is if it would auto-refresh (and +2 points if I was actually able to adjust the auto-refresh rate). Otherwise, great job on this!
  • Neil · 1 year ago
I've used it for a few days now. It's really good - but here are a couple of issues.

    1. Comments posted to FriendFeed are truncated.

    2. Many people add RSS feeds from sources other than "Blog" under the "Blog" category. However, in the extension, all of these are displayed as "Blog" and all contain the same posts.
This is more the fault of FriendFeed for forcing us to use the "Blog" category for "other RSS".
  • Neil · 1 year ago
    And just one more issue:

When Firefox 3b5 opens a popup window, the following alert is displayed:

    [Exception... "Component returned failure code: 0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE) [nsIScrollBoxObject.ensureElementIsVisible]" :::nsresult: "0x80004005 (NS_ERROR_FAILURE)" location: "JS frame :: chrome://ffbar/content/scripts/ffbar.js :: anonymous :: line :::1334" data: no]

The alert disappears if mysocial is disabled.
  • Steve · 1 year ago
I am experiencing a similar issue in the release build of firefox 3. otherwise, i am enjoying the sidebar greatly. nice work sandosh.
  • natadd · 1 year ago
Wow, thats a cool thing! Downloading to try it out. You should definetly integrate Facebook updates as well!
  • svartling · 1 year ago
    Excellent Firefox extension.
  • Nathan Howell · 1 year ago
Very nice tool. One option I'd like to request is the ability to turn off the popup notifications. Also, I see a lot of people requesting auto-refresh. I'm not really sure I'd *want* it, so if you add it, I hope you make it optional. Last thing, I get the same exception error message mentioned by Neil in another comment. I'm running FF3b5 on Linux.
  • yannleroux · 1 year ago
    S'il n'y a qu'un seul addon a installer sur Firefox, c'est celui la : MySocial24/7. http://mysocial247.com/

  • Thijs · 1 year ago
    Great stuff!
  • MikePearce · 1 year ago
Hey man, great job. This is a really useful app! I've got a couple of suggestions of features I'd like:
    - Can the share not actuall requires a URL or image? I just want to post messages without that.
    - Clickable flickr etc thumbnailes
  • pansapiens · 1 year ago
The sidebar is great, it's almost always open in my Firefox.

    Two feature requests:

    * Middle click to open links in a new tab (+1 to michaeltwofish's vote)
    * Deal with FriendFeed "Rooms". You could do this just like the "All Friends" dropdown list, just add an equivalent for "Rooms" you are subscribed to.
  • John Burton · 1 year ago
    Doesn't work with FF3
  • ppmartin · 1 year ago
    Actually, it does...
  • dd · 1 year ago
auto-refreshing. but one simple though important thing is when one write comments that auto-refreshing don't kill writing process.
  • Danny · 1 year ago
it doesn't auto refresh and how do I make a new post? I tried the +share button but its sharing the website where I am in. I want to be able to make a new post. thx and very cool app you have here.
  • bpowell · 1 year ago
Love this... Keep up the great work Sandosh
  • sandosh · 1 year ago

  • FitzAZ · 1 year ago
Have you checked out the Flock browser? Very cool embedded social media
  • Bill · 1 year ago
When choose to see all of my posts (Me>Everything), the window is blank. But if I select a specific service (Me>Friendfeed), stuff shows up.
  • nick · 1 year ago
Nice it looks a lot like the yoono sidebar , with maybe a little less applications.
  • livejamie · 1 year ago
It'd be a lot nicer if it defaulted to my friends view, rather than the public view.
  • dep · 1 year ago
    this is sweet! thanks!
  • Edo · 1 year ago
Can you made it compatible with FF 3.0.1 ?
  • robertscanlon · 1 year ago
Same for me - looking for the add-on to be upgraded to work with FF 3.0.1 (it worked fine with previous V3, but FF is saying it is not compatible with 3.0.1)
  • dep · 1 year ago
If someone favorites a song on Pandora, the thumbnail for the album is HUGE and blows out the width of the sidebar, making me scroll horizontally to read everything.
  • Dane Morgan · 1 year ago
Will there be a 3.0.1 compatible release soon?
  • RealSlogans.com · 1 year ago
    Firefox 3.0.1
    Does not work...
  • Edo · 1 year ago
    THIS IS NOT A SOLUTION, IT'S A WORKAROUND !!!

If you want to use the version 0.5 with FF 3.0.1 you must go in about:config adn set/create the oprion extensions.checkCompatibility to false

Thank you very much for a quality product!
  • alex · 1 year ago
why is it not already available for Firefox 3.0.1?
  • Foomandoonian · 1 year ago
This is tragic! I just discovered this add-on today, and it works brilliantly on FF2 at work. I love the concept of Friend Feed, but I have never fount a way to make it a part of my routine like Twitter has become. This app could do it, but I've just discovered (as have the others here) that it doesn't work on Firefox 3.

Can anyone pick up this project? It seems like a real winner to me...

It's a bit like earlier versions of "SimilarWeb"... It resizes my sidebar and every time after I use it and access my bookmarks, history or RSS, I need to resize the width of the sidebar... which is very annoying.

    Otherwise, it's pretty good.
  • J · 8 months ago
OK, I found a solution... I resize MySocial to the same width as other sidebars and things look good.
  • Pepperfire · 6 months ago
Not compatible with Firefox 3.0.10 :( How unfortunate. I was looking forward to installing this.
